Training

Futures Theatre has many years of experience working very closely with social care professionals to create bespoke, tailored-made programmes that support empathetic training based on real-life experiences.

Our programmes re-create challenging situations in which professionals may find themselves, using a safe space and the opportunity to explore and expand their skills with like-minded peers in training. Our training is appropriate for social work students, AYSE and beyond.

How it works

Participants work with actors in ‘real working life’ situations and draw ideas from the collective experience of the group. Scenarios include:

  • Evasion, aggression, disguised compliance and unexpected outcomes on a home visit

  • Engaging and supporting service users living with domestic abuse

  • Effective supervision meetings

  • Multi agency meetings

  • Working/communicating with young people

The Benefits

Our workshops prepare participants to deal with the challenges they'll encounter daily, within a safe and supportive environment. Participants will:

  • Build confidence by rehearsing communication skills with different client groups

  • Rehearse working with and interviewing service users in complex situations in a professional manner

  • Develop reflective, culturally sensitive and effective practice

  • Explore the complexities of and develop skills for working in a pressurised environment

Hybrid Training

Futures Theatre has created an online version of its dynamic, participatory training for social workers. By creating a digital programme with the same principles, Futures Theatre has supported participants through challenging times.

Working on the digital platform of your choice, Futures facilitators can guide teams through challenging situations they may encounter daily. Interactive scenarios provoke discussion and reflection. Participants have the rare opportunity to rehearse, learn and practice for their everyday work.

Don’t just take our word for it!

“As an ASYE, it was easy to see some of the pitfalls that happen, especially on video calls. It was helpful to unpick some of that and consider how to approach it differently”

"Another hugely successful session with our first-year students... thank you for such a great, inspiring session"
